Roofing Sheet Specifications Explained
Understanding the technical specifications of FRP roofing sheets helps you make informed decisions. This guide explains the key terms and what they mean for your roofing performance.
GSM (Grams per Square Meter)
GSM measures the weight of the fibreglass reinforcement per unit area. Higher GSM indicates a denser, more robust sheet with better structural properties.

Light Transmission (%)
Light transmission indicates the percentage of natural daylight that passes through the roofing sheet. Higher values mean more natural light inside the building.

- Medium (40-60%): Balanced daylight and UV protection — ideal for factories, warehouses
- High (65-75%): Maximum natural daylight — reduces artificial lighting costs, good for workspaces
Gel Coat
The gel coat is the outer layer of the FRP sheet that provides UV resistance, weather protection, and the finished surface appearance. Space Asia uses premium UV-resistant gel coats formulated for Malaysian tropical conditions.
- Acts as a barrier against UV radiation
- Provides weather and moisture resistance
- Determines the surface finish and color
- Can be clear (for maximum light transmission) or pigmented

- Flat: For architectural applications, canopy roofs
Warranty Considerations
Space Asia provides up to 15-year warranties on FRP roofing sheets. Warranty coverage typically includes:
- Loss of light transmission due to yellowing
- Delamination or fiber exposure
